Sarclet Haven

Sarclet_0001, originally uploaded by gerry_mcgregor.

South of Wick, Sarclet Haven was a busy fishing port in the 19th century. As with all ports in this area, it was the Herring that was its life blood.
It is hard to imagine, looking at what is left of the harbour, that fishing boats could land here. In the village adjoining, Thrumster, there was a stop on the Lybster - Wick railway line built specifically for the herring.

This photo was taken on June 4, 2010.
